Their safety compliance certificate is almost immediate when wet pour rubber is paired to the correct fall height placement of any playground. The PLAYSaFE wet pour rubber system has pre certification prior to installation.

There are a variety of SBR rubber or EPDM rubber colours to choose from. Multi-colour slab mixtures can be supplied, where two or three colours are combined at your request. SBR & EPDM Benefits

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomers (EPDM) is a high density synthetic rubber which is weather resistant and absorbs less solar heat. It is extremely versatile with the ability to better withstand temperatures associated with environmental factors such as UV weathering and water swell.

Styrene-butadiene Rubber (SBR) is produced from black rubber tyres that are stripped of their metal reinforcing and then mechanically shredded into granules. These rubber granules are graded and available in different sizes, that can be pre coloured and used as an economical surface.

While EPDM offers a wider range of colours and is more weather resistant, SBR is a more economical surfacing option.

PLAYSaFE Wet Pour Rubber Care and Maintenance Instructions

PLAYSaFE Wet Pour Rubber is nearly maintenance-free, unlike loose sand or park mulch. Regular cleaning of your installed PLAYSaFE surface, according to the below recommendations, will promote a long useful life as well as attractive appearance. A wet pour rubber surface is porous and has spaces between the material which can trap dirt. The only way to remove this dirt build-up is to hose it down with water (external areas) and/or use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to suck up the dirt from between the aggregate.

Required tools and materials for manual deep cleaning:

PH neutral cleaning detergent
Industrial wet-and-dry vacuum cleaner and garden hose
Soft-bristled broom/scrubber

Steps for manual deep cleaning:

Thoroughly dampen the area with clean water or a solution of diluted cleaning detergent and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
In a circular motion, scrub the cleaning solution over the surface with the soft-bristled broom.
Vacuum the surface using a wet-and-dry vacuum cleaner to ensure most of the moisture is removed.
Rinse the area with fresh water and then remove excess water using a wet-and-dry industrial vacuum cleaner. Remaining moisture will evaporate during the course of the day.

If moss and algae result from atmospheric exposure, it is recommended to use a high-pressure water cleaner at less than 200 bar, without chemical additives. Please Note: The water pressure must be not too high and the distance of water jet to the surface area should be a minimum of 30cm with the water temperature not higher than 80°C. This method of high-pressured cleaning is to be done once a year or as and when is required.

Mechanical Damage:

Should the floor become damaged through mechanical means or other, contact us immediately to quote for any repairs.

Please Note:

Do not use harsh or solvent based cleaning/cleansing detergents and they can damage the surface.
Only soft-bristled scrubbers are to be used.
Exposure to environmental conditions and contamination of the granulate structure may cause colour fading over time.

Critical Fall Heights

Playground equipment comes in various heights. PLAYSaFE wet pour is installed to meet various critical fall heights and are suitable for any fall height ranging from 0,60 – 3,00m.

The critical fall height is defined as the lowest fall height that generates a HIC value of 1000. Each PLAYSaFE wet pour surface is individually tested to determine its Head Injury Criterion (HIC) value. When installed, PLAYSaFE wet pour is pre-certified to meet criteria in accordance with DIN EN 1177:2008; the international standard which requires shock-absorbent surfacing for a fall height of 0,60m or higher.

PLAYSaFE wet pour thicknesses correlates to different critical fall heights. The higher the fall, the thicker PLAYSaFE wet pour needs to be.

e.g. PLAYSaFE wet pour with a thickness of 70mm provides impact protection for a 2,10m fall.

The South African Standard (SANS 51177:2010) for critical fall height has the identical implementation and is a direct adoption of the International Standard EN 1177:2008.

Playground Flooring Placement

The proper placement of playground flooring is essential.

The below points regarding the placement of the flooring is very broad. More detailed information is available on request.

The protective surfacing should be extended to at least two meters from the equipment in all directions.
PLAYSaFE wet pour flooring should extend in front of and behind a single axis swing to the distance that is equal to the height of the top bar from which the swing is suspended.
The playground surfacing should cover a radius that is equal to the height of the suspending chain or rope plus two meters in all directions, for round or multi-axis swings.

Playground Certifications

The suitability of PLAYSaFE wet pour rubber flooring is documented with a test certificate to prove their compliance. Certification is supplied with all PLAYSaFE products which will certify the playground safety flooring to a specific fall height.

The critical fall height is determined by a test consisting of a series of nine fall tests, in which four increasing fall heights are examined. The critical fall height is defined as the lowest fall height that generates an HIC value of 1000. The HIC value of 1000 ensures that virtually no head injuries with permanent damage can be expected. It is important to remember: the lower the HIC value, the higher the protection for a child’s head.
